Crochet simple bracelets

It’s fun to crochet bracelets. Here are three I dreamed up:

Bracelet 1

Materials
• 1 ball crochet cotton, black with a silver thread running through it, available at fabric and craft stores and departments. White with silver and gold with gold also are available. Or use Perle cotton in lively colors.
• Size 3 steel crochet hook
• Silver-color beads, sequins, charms or other embellishments
• Sewing needle and black thread
• Jewelry findings, such as “lobster claw” or other clasps

Instructions
Chain 50. (Fits small wrist)
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *skip 2 ch, 5 dc in next stitch, skip 2 ch, sc in next stitch, repeat from * across, 4 sc in last sc. Do not turn.
Row 2: Working along bottom edge, work *5 dc in same place as 5 dc in Row 1, sc in sc, repeat from star across, 2 sc in last sc, slip stitch in dc, end off.
Finishing: Weave in crochet thread ends. Press. With black thread sew beads to center of each scallop. Sew jewelry findings to each end.

Bracelet 2

Materials
Same as Bracelet 1.
Instructions
Chain 50. (Fits medium size wrist. Chain 45 for small size)
Row 1: Sc in second chain from hook and in each chain across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in first sc and each sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 3-6: Repeat Row 2. End off.
Finishing: Weave in ends. Press. Arrange sequins and bead in a flower motif in center of bracelet and sew in place. Sew jewelry findings to bracelet.

Bracelet 3
Materials
Same as Bracelet 1.
Instructions
Chain 50
Row 1: Dc in fourth chain from hook and in each chain stitch across, 6 dc in last stitch. Do not turn.
Row 2: Working along bottom edge, dc in each stitch to last stitch, 5 dc in last stitch, slip stitch in top of dc. End off.
Finishing: Weave in end. Press. Sew on beads and jewelry findings.

Snippets

Here’s an opportunity for those of you who enjoy using your needlework skills to make the world a better place and add a bit of comfort to the lives of others. Hope House in Bangor, a shelter for those dealing with homelessness, addiction and mental illness, is in need of pillowslips for its 69 beds. It also needs warm hats, mittens, gloves, socks and blankets. For information, call Hope House Manager Ann Giggey at 217-6713, ext. 480.

Brewer Public Library is forming a knitting club. The group will meet 9:30 a.m. Fridays, beginning Jan 20. To join the group, call the library at 989-7943.

SAD 22 Adult Education is offering craft classes during its winter session at Reeds Brook Middle School in Hampden. Call the adult education office at 862-6422 to register or for information about cost. The schedule is:
• Primitive penny rug wool applique, 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesdays for four weeks, beginning March 7.
• Dried flower swag workshop, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15.
• Quilling cards workshop, 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16.
• Ukrainian egg dyeing class, 5:30-8 p.m. Mondays for six weeks, beginning Feb. 6.
• Flower cards workshop, 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8.

Want improve your knitting skills? The Interweave Knitting Lab New England is set for Oct. 4-7 at The Radisson Hotel Manchester in New Hampshire. Registration opens in mid-April. Classes will include unique regional, ethnic and historical techniques and studio classes that apply new design and technique skills to original creations. Classes in sock knitting, lace knitting, cables, sweater construction, knitwear design, color theory, mosaic knitting, intarsia and Fair Isle are scheduled.
